Newsletter
for Distributors
|
|
Dear Distributors,
As we all look forward to what we hope will be a brighter summer, we
wanted to take the opportunity to update you on our performance and
priorities and highlight some recent news.
Over recent months, we have started to bounce back from the challenges
of the COVID-19 pandemic and stay focused on our strategy to build a
safe, smart and sustainable world, for you our valued distributors, our
colleagues, our customers and our communities.
The good news is that our sales performance showed a steep rise in all
regions, reflecting a stronger position in many markets and industries.
This growth momentum was driven by strong market demand, thanks in part
to the solid service we provided to customers during recent lockdowns.
Together, we keep delivering robust performances while keeping our
people safe and we would like to thank you for your contributions to
what has been a positive start to 2021.
In this newsletter, we share some of our recent successes, including
how we are charging the Port of Helsingborg’s sustainability goals and
how our Building Information Modelling Leads to Further Collaborations.
Manufacturing shutdowns in 2020, followed by the worldwide economic
bounce-back have created a global shortage in a wide range of materials
including steel, resins and microchips. These raw materials are used in
manufacturing by businesses operating in a variety of segments and
industries.
Supporting our distributors and customers is always our priority and we
will ensure that we communicate specifically in case of any changes to
lead times or availability.
As ever, we keep strengthening our partnership to build our leadership
positioning, through a range of activities including customer
relations, innovation, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)
performance and investment in digital technologies. We also plan to
take full advantage of the next economic cycle, particularly in the
strategic segments we target together.
ABB remains committed to working with you to support a safe, smart and
sustainable world, today and for the future. Our vision remains
unchanged, and we look forward to making positive progress with you as
2021 continues.
“Deeper relationships, higher growth powered by our partnership.”
Best regards,
Your Distribution Channel Team

Building Information Modelling (BIM)
BIM is a process for the construction of buildings, that allows the
different stakeholders to work with higher levels of collaboration,
leading to huge time, cost and environmental savings.
To support our distributors and their customers along this journey, ABB
has recently released a brand new e-learning module for distributors
and customers: "BIM overview by ABB"
This module is designed for anyone using BIM for the first time by
providing general information, the fundamentals of what BIM is used for
and what its benefits are for the daily activities of distributors and
customers.
ABB’s BIM team will support our partners by providing BIM data,
objects, families and allowing distributors to manage 4D and 5D data
with contractors and installers.

US 2021 National Association of Electrical Distributors (NAED)
Virtual Annual Meeting
The US 2021 NAED Virtual Annual Meeting was held virtually recently.
The event was a great opportunity to spend some quality time with our
US distributor partners, discussing current market conditions and
future opportunities.
The general sentiment was very bullish about post COVID-19 recovery
plans. Top of everyone’s agenda was the growth of EV charging
infrastructure and operational performance. The US Channel Team also
rolled out a new Distributor Scorecard that will help our partners
become more efficient in their ordering patterns. This should help to
reduce transaction costs and create efficiencies for our RDC’s and
their operations.
While we are all getting used to virtual meetings, we are hopeful that
the NAED will return to face-to-face meetings in the third quarter of
2021. This will be a great opportunity to meet our distributors face to
face ‘in real life’, which we are all excited about.

Digital Sales Strategy
ABB Electrification’s digital strategy strongly leverages on partners
for innovation and go to market. We aim to create an ecosystem of key
partners to accelerate and support digital transformation for the
benefit of our customers.
One of our priorities is to empower our channel partners to leverage
ABB Ability™ solutions. Distributors play an essential role in
promoting and selling our digital offerings in the market. We are
working together to help strengthen customer relationships beyond
hardware sales, creating an additional differentiator through our
digital offering and promoting the value of digital transformation.
By selling an integrated package of hardware and software, technical
partners can create a customer relationship that extends far beyond the
initial equipment purchase. Selling digital subscription services can
provide new, ongoing revenue streams that can help partners to
diversify their business.

ABB Value Provider
To create this joint value proposition and help distributors to grow
their business and differentiate as a service driven organization, we
will be rolling out the ABB Value Provider Programs for ABB
Ability™ solutions (starting with energy and asset management in H2
2021, building and e-mobility to follow in 2022).
Certified partners will be able to promote and sell our smart and
connected devices along with our software-as-a-service solutions, with
the option to incorporate additional services including design,
commissioning and after-sales support.
We will help our certified Value Provider partners to build an
incremental set of competences for a given digital domain of expertise,
empowering them to enroll on the program based on on-the-ground
capabilities and local go-to-market strategy
Our partnership and certification process is aimed at enhancing
distributors perceived added value in offering customers solutions that
address their needs in a specific area (domain of expertise).
ABB wants Value Providers to develop their expertise in particular
domains and to be recognized as expert by Customers. As a result, Value
Providers are provided with a label on which their relevant domains of
expertise are listed.
With ABB Ability digital offering we help our partners to become expert
in digital solutions and relevant domains such as Asset Management,
Energy Management, Building Management, E-Mobility.

Environmental, Social and
Governance
|
We recognize that there is
increasing demand from distributors to understand the sustainability of
our supply chain, operations and our product offering. Distributors
want to make sure that they are able to provide objective, verifiable
environmental impact information about the equipment and
solutions offered to their customers, and to comply with the
sustainable development standards promoted.
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. ABB’s 2030 sustainability
strategy has a clear focus on areas with the biggest impact – enabling
a low-carbon society by reducing emissions, preserving resources, and
promoting social progress underpinned by a strong commitment to
integrity and transparency. We are doing all we can to become a
more sustainable company, but recognize that we can greatly amplify our
sustainability impact – and create additional value for all
stakeholders – by working closely with our suppliers, distributors and
customers.
For our distributor partners, we are committed to providing sustainable
products and solutions (including certification) by addressing all
phases of the product lifecycle – from product development and
manufacturing, to operations and end-of-life. Taking this circular economy
approach, we will work together to limit environmental impacts
from our products and solutions so that we create a safe, smart and
sustainable world for future generations.

sustainability strategy are available here

Laying the groundwork - how to digitalize your installed base.
A conversation with Luca Cavalli
Luca Cavalli leads the digital Asset Management of
Electrification, defining the global strategy and roadmap applied to
electrical systems from medium to low voltage, from e-mobility to
buildings.
Whenever I talk to customers who are unsure about beginning their
digitalization journey I'm always reminded of this quote from the late,
great Steve Jobs.
“Start
small, think big. Don’t worry about too many things at once.”
Jobs
worked at the very cutting edge of consumer technology and yet he
understood a crucial thing –– big things happen when you focus on the
small stuff.
This
is just as true of the facility management world. That’s why it’s worth
beginning to think about digitalization not as a switch to be suddenly
flipped on, but as a journey, with measured, thoughtful steps.

Healthy buildings empower wellbeing and nourish the environment.
A conversation with Ian Richardson
Ian Richardson is the Market Development Manager for Energy
Distribution within Smart Buildings in ABB Australia's Electrification
business.
Shifting to more energy-efficient buildings is now regarded as central
to carbon reduction strategies. So what technology is available to make
our buildings more sustainable and altogether healthier?
Some of the time I used to spend commuting - I now spend indoors, that
means I’m somehow indoors even more than before. Even before COVID-19
restrictions, numerous research studies reported that the average
person spends about 90 per cent of their time inside buildings. That’s
partly due to urbanisation. When you live in a city, you tend to spend
more time indoors. According to a 2018 report by the United Nations, 55
per cent of the world population resides in urban areas. By 2050, that
could climb to 68 per cent.
