War of the currents: An update
Sometimes technological advancement is not about a new discovery, it is about steady progress, hard work and improvement of existing technologies. Although direct current (dc) and alternating current (ac) started out as competing technologies, they are really complementary technologies; unfortunately, many still do not recognize this fact. Is the war finally over? >> Read More

The rise of smart circuits
Smart grid technologies are deployed in many different ways across the United States and throughout the world. One of the most important aspects of any utility's smart grid deployment t is its approach to interoperability. Outside of the DMS, one of the core enabling technologies of the smart grid is the communications network. Learn more about how one utility implemented Tropos Networks' wireless radio network to communicate to intelligent end devices. >> Read More

Hot new solar technology
A complete, sun-to-grid concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) solution has been introduced to the market. This CPV system can produce 30%-40% more clean, renewable electricity over the course of a year than comparable crystalline silicon or thin-film solar PV systems. This effectively and significantly reduces the footprint, as well as the cost, of developing utility-scale solar PV projects. Read more to learn about the advantages of a turnkey CPV system. >> Read More

World's most powerful direct current data center online
A newly opened data center expansion project that employs HVDC-capable HP servers is officially the most powerful application of direct current (DC) in a data center to date. Performance tests show that the facility's new power distribution system is 10 percent more efficient than comparable alternating current (AC) technology. In addition, investment costs for the system were 15 percent lower than for an AC system. Read more about the project and the advantages of DC data centers >> Read More

How to save money with SF6 gas inventory management
Do you know if you have truly empty SF6 gas cylinders or are you bearing a lot of "heels"? A heel is the residual gas left in a cylinder when thought to be empty. Typically 12 – 15% of SF6 gas remains in returned cylinders. Knowing how many SF6 cylinders you use per year and estimating your heel allows you to manage your inventory and save money every year. Read more about managing your SF6 inventory. >> Read More
